Just ran some numbers on my new file server, not much of a jump in performance
This is the Old Server
Running warmup… Running a 400MB file write on 5 times… Iteration 1: 95.27 MB/sec Iteration 2: 72.43 MB/sec Iteration 3: 84.90 MB/sec Iteration 4: 83.43 MB/sec Iteration 5: 92.99 MB/sec Average (W): 85.80 MB/sec Running a 400MB file read on 5 times… Iteration 1: 111.62 MB/sec Iteration 2: 113.26 MB/sec Iteration 3: 111.91 MB/sec Iteration 4: 110.12 MB/sec Iteration 5: 110.76 MB/sec Average (R): 111.54 MB/sec
This is the New Server
Running warmup… Running a 400MB file write on 5 times… Iteration 1: 96.55 MB/sec Iteration 2: 92.71 MB/sec Iteration 3: 53.75 MB/sec Iteration 4: 95.83 MB/sec Iteration 5: 96.53 MB/sec Average (W): 87.07 MB/sec Running a 400MB file read on 5 times… Iteration 1: 111.38 MB/sec Iteration 2: 112.75 MB/sec Iteration 3: 113.10 MB/sec Iteration 4: 112.82 MB/sec Iteration 5: 112.72 MB/sec Average (R): 112.56 MB/sec
For yucks this is my FreeNAS server
Running warmup… Running a 400MB file write on 5 times… Iteration 1: 16.71 MB/sec Iteration 2: 46.09 MB/sec Iteration 3: 46.66 MB/sec Iteration 4: 46.68 MB/sec Iteration 5: 46.35 MB/sec Average (W): 40.50 MB/sec Running a 400MB file read on 5 times… Iteration 1: 116.79 MB/sec Iteration 2: 115.78 MB/sec Iteration 3: 114.69 MB/sec Iteration 4: 115.92 MB/sec Iteration 5: 115.38 MB/sec Average (R): 115.71 MB/sec
You read that right, the write performance is the worst on FreeNAS
Want even worse news
Performance was better in 2013.
At least on my media server it is slower
Running warmup… Running a 400MB file write on 5 times… Iteration 1: 95.58 MB/sec Iteration 2: 95.30 MB/sec Iteration 3: 93.64 MB/sec Iteration 4: 95.42 MB/sec Iteration 5: 106.52 MB/sec Average (W): 97.29 MB/sec Running a 400MB file read on 5 times… Iteration 1: 111.93 MB/sec Iteration 2: 109.07 MB/sec Iteration 3: 111.53 MB/sec Iteration 4: 110.52 MB/sec Iteration 5: 112.17 MB/sec Average (R): 111.04 MB/sec
With that said, I’m not too surprised, because the network was busy when these tests were run.
Going Live with the server tomorrow night when I get home.
On another note, I got a vSpheree 6.0 server upgraded today, that was good, combined the PSC and VC into one, basically going from VC with External PSC to VC with Embedded PSC.
Weight: 303.8
