In the middle of hell week and I found time to do fix my motherboard.
Recall about a week and a half ago that I discovered my motherboard had some blown caps
http://www.apolonio.com/blog/?p=2154
I ordered some caps for cheap, 0.59 each, needed just three but heck just got some extras just in case, got 10 altogether. I did get some other items but shipping was about $5.09 so if I were to just order these caps, it would have cost me 10.99 with shipping.
I installed them today and I am shocked that it worked!!!
Still going through some memory testing but it has already gone farther than it has before.
Before this, my board would not even post let alone load memory testing software.
If it makes it through the night I am gonna claim victory.
So was it worth it?
As an $11 academic exercise? Absolutely.
As a real production fix or am I putting this box back into production…. eh, probably not.
Soldering the new caps on was easy, removing the old caps was the hard part, the solder used seemed like it needed to heat up higher than what my iron could do. After I got the bad caps off, I had to go in with a dremel and make the hole larger.
Last night took some benedril and whoooweee, I could BREATH!!! I went to the store today and got some generic claritin, will take a pack to work. Could have used it today.
Also went to work extra early today and got my 4 miles on the treadmill done. Tomorrow just 1 simple mile. I may run it at home. But the goal is to rest.
Final note for the day, I paid the personal trainer another month’s worth of training, she did say it looks like I lost some weight since we started, second person in as much days to say so.
