I ran the Lake Washington 7 mile run today, or at least tried. My intent was to try and run it twice but it was clear after the 4th mile it was not going to happen. At mile 4 my toes cramped mildly and it progressed to my foot, then calf. At mile 5 it was in full cramp. I had to walk. I changed my strategy to run walk but my legs kept cramping.
A lot of factors led to my failure, the most obvious is they 2 week layoff and trying to get back in it. The trip to Hawaii where not only I was limited due to time when I worked out, but I ate bad stuff. Finally, they food poisoning I had this past Wednesday, yes it emptied my stomach, but would I have been so dehydrated for this run if I weren’t sick?
I will need to pace myself for success. There are 4 more weekends left to run. I will try a 4 plus tomorrow.
If you took the time at face value, I completed it in 1 hour 35 minutes even with walking, it is not bad, I probably stand a good chance at beating 3 hours. But I want to beat last years time.
The scale was interesting today too… quite happy with it.
