Smart Doorbell using ESP8266

I purchased a push light from the Dollar Tree and modified it so it would send me a text message.

Dollar Tree Light

It was really easy to take apart, there were just four screws holding the thing together.  Once it was apart I removed the light and thin wires solder on to the battery holder terminals.

I soldered on thicker wires, ones that could fit into a breadboard.

At the very least it was a cheaper battery holder than one from Frys.

Although this could work with 2 batteries, I opted to just use all four and step it down with a voltage regulator.

I am pretty sure I could have gone cheaper with this unit, I could have done away with the voltage regulator (which costs about $1.50) and stayed with two AA.  Also I did not need the breadboard, just made things easier.

This could have been under $7 to build.
